Coach Jason played IYBL through the 8th grade while also playing Irvine Charger Football before moving on to Northwood High School where he made a full time commitment to Timberwolf Football.  He was a member of the first team in Northwood High School history to go to the Division 9 CIF SS Football Championship.

While attending Santiago Canyon College, Jason was offered the Freshman Basketball Head Coach position at Irvine High School, where he was able to coach a group of our first Flight players.  He spent 2 years Coaching at Irvine. He transferred to Concordia University where he completed his English degree and minored in a very unique program offered at Concordia: Coaching & Athletic Administration.

Assistant Coach

Irvine Flight Basketball expects our players to show respect for teammates, parents, coaches, opponents and the officials.

If you or your son would like to know how to become part of the Flight Family, please send us a message via the Contact page

Coach Lisa is a vocal bench coach, stat keeper & game film analyst, and is Mom #2 for the 3 years each group of "her" boys play Flight Basketball.

Always a sports girl, she played 11 years of league, travel, and then high school softball and basketball. She was part of the most successful girl's Varsity Basketball team in Walnut High School history, advancing through the CIF playoffs until being knocked out in the semi-finals by perennial basketball powerhouse Brea-Olinda.  She would have loved to continue playing competitively but sustained an injury that made that impossible.

Coach Lisa attended Chaffey College and Cal Poly Pomona majoring in Political Science with a minor in Journalism.  She loves a strong, active defense that creates fast break baskets and preaches that free throws shouldn't be missed.  Don't argue rules or stats with Coach Lisa.  She's got 19 years of coaching under her belt and facts & figures are her thing!

Lisa Swartz

Assistant Coach

Throughout his 26 years coaching youth basketball in Irvine, Coach Jeff has been fortunate to work with some other terrific coaches as well.   Mark Owen, Jeff Konstanzer, Tom Borsuk, Mark Wolf, Mel Cry, Fidel Vargas, Kenny Nash, and Jeremiah Allianic all put in countless hours and helped to create the system that has become Irvine Flight Basketball.

Over the years many Flight players have volunteered their time to come out and lend their guidance and act as mentors to the newest members of the Flight Family.  Players are always welcome to come out to share stories, experience and teach what they've learned!

Jeff Swartz
Head Coach

The Spring 2022 Basketball Season officially marks Coach Jeff's 26th year coaching youth basketball in the city of Irvine.

In 2005, after 10 years of coaching IYBL/NJB (even long after his son had moved on to high school) Coach Jeff teamed with his son Jason, and his friend & fellow basketball fanatic Tom Borsuk, and began coaching an All-Net team in need of a coach. That team became the first Irvine Flight.

When he is not coaching Flight Basketball, Coach Jeff spends his off court time with his wife and son enjoying work outs in the gym, travel to warm places, their 3 Labs & Cat, and home LA Kings hockey games & football games of his Alma Mater (USC '87) the USC Trojans as well as any away games the basketball schedule allows.
